VALLEY OF STONE TRAILS

There are many fine examples of industrial archaeology, specifically quarrying archaeology throughout Rossendale. Here, the most interesting heritage sites, processing sites and tramways have been explored.

The past couple of months have been crazy with Tier restrictions and Lockdown but it gave us the incentive to look for walks across Lancashire that we wouldn't normally find.

Because the 3 youngest are home educated, we decided to find walks that can be incorporated with the kids education, and stumbled across the Valley of stones website.

Which shows fine examples of industrial archaeology, specifically quarrying archaeology throughout Lancashire particularly around Rossendale area.

The website gives ideas of the location or at least the grid reference so we have managed to find and visit quite a few over the past 6 weeks.

Top ruins we have visited so far

  1. LEE QUARRY

2. COWM RESERVOIR AND QUARRY RUINS

3. MUSBURY HEIGHTS QUARRY

4-FECIT END QUARRY

5- CRAGG QUARRY

6- CLOUGHFOLD
